College preparatory and general curriculum courses are offered. The school is accredited by (AISA) the Alabama Independent School Association and (SACS) Southern Association of Colleges and Schools; therefore, the school meets the standards declared to be necessary for a quality education. We hope to accomplish our mission through the use of the following concepts: 1. Establishing and maintaining a positive environment; 2. Offering curriculums that are flexible and will allow students to maximize their potential; 3. Providing an educational setting that is safe, clean, secure, attractive and conducive to learning and teaching; 4. Reinforcing and recognizing students in a positive way in all areas of school life; and, 5. Encouraging parental and community involvement. MATERIALS Workbooks, educational materials, and supplies for grades N 12 must be purchased by the students. This will vary by grade and/or class. You will receive a listing of this cost as quickly as it is determined. Textbook usage fee for all textbooks needed by a student is: Elementary $25.00, Secondary $45.00 THIS FEE IS PAYABLE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. (SEPARATE CHECK BY GRADE) SCHOOL OPENING The first day of school will be August 11, 2006. (Each family will be mailed a Newsletter before school starts with more information.) REGISTRATION THE ACCEPTANCE OF ANY STUDENT IS FOR ONE YEAR ONLY. REGISTRATION OF ALL STUDENTS WHO WILL BE ENROLLED AT SOUTHERN ACADEMY IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT WE OBTAIN AN ACCURATE ENROLLMENT PROJECTION SO THAT WE WILL KNOW HOW MANY TEACHERS TO EMPLOY FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. THE WEEKS OF April 10-21, 2006 HAS BEEN DESIGNATED FOR STUDENT REGISTRATION FOR 2006-2007 SCHOOL YEAR. ALL PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO MAIL THEIR REGISTRATION FORM AND POST DATED CHECKS TO THE SCHOOL PRIOR TO THE DEADLINE. ANYONE WHO IS PRESENTLY ENROLLED AND SUBMITS A REGISTRATION FORM AFTER APRIL 21, 2006 AT 3:00 P.M. WILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY A DELINQUENT FEE OF $250.00 BEFORE HIS OR HER CHILD/CHILDREN WILL BE ENROLLED AT SOUTHERN ACADEMY. SPACE CANNOT BE GUARANTEED AFTER THIS DATE. ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS For a student to be accepted at Southern Academy the following criteria must be met: Age Requirements (on or before October I of attendance year) 1. Nursery - four years old (must be potty-trained) 2. Kindergarten - five years old 3. First Grade - six years old Necessary Documents _______ 1. Copy of Certified Birth Certificate (not hospital record) _______ 2. Certificate of Immunization (not expired) _______ 3. Copy of Social Security Card General Requirements All transferring students must: 1. Present an official transcript from sending school. 2. Be in good standing in grades and behavior from sending school. 3. Have a score on total battery of 5th stanine on a standardized test. If this is not available, an entrance test, Otis Lennon Mental Ability will be administered by school personnel and a score of 5th stanine must be attained on this. Kindergarten and first graders transferring in will be administered appropriate assessment by school personnel. SPECIAL SERVICES Southern Academy does not offer classes for students with officially diagnosed special needs including but not limited to: EMR, EC, LD, ADHD, ADD, etc. If a student has exceptional needs that may be better served in a school offering services for these needs, it might be in the best interest of the student to avail themselves of these services. Southern Academy will not be expected to alter class arrangement or course requirements/assignments for students. FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS Foundation Fee The initial entry fee for a family to Southern Academy shall be $1,000.00. THIS MUST BE PAID WITH REGISTRATION. IT MAY BE PAID IN TWO INCREMENTS OF $500.00 A YEAR FOR TWO CONSECUTIVE YEARS. If you elect to pay in increments and for any reason you do not enroll your children for two years, you are still responsible for this fee. Building Fee $ 100. 00 will be assessed to each student annually to help with repair, replacement, and general upkeep and operation of the facility. THIS MUST BE PAID WITH REGISTRATION. (A SEPARATE CHECK) TUITION For all ages (four years - twelfth grade) _________ One child - $3,108.00 per year or $259.00 per month for twelve months _________ Two children - $5,088, per year or $424.00 per month for twelve months _________ Three children - $6,924.00 per year or $577.00 per month for twelve months _________ Four children- $8,520.00 per year or $710.00 per month for twelve months _________ Five or more children - $9,948.00 per year or $829.00 per month for twelve months PAYMENT OF TUITION (Please check one of the following) _________ In full - Payable by June 1, 2006. _________ By semester - 1/2 due June 1, 2006 and January 1, 2007. (Post-dated checks with registration) _________ Post dated checks Twelve checks due with this registration form. These checks must be dated the 1st or 15th of each month. Monthly payments of tuition will be allowed only with post-dated checks beginning June 1st or 15th, 2006 and concluding May 1st or May 15th, 2007. APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED WITHOUT POST-DATED CHECKS. All tuition is due and payable even if a child is not enrolled in Southern Academy for any reason; however, refunds of tuition fees may be allowed in case of a necessary vocational move, undue hardship or in unusual circumstances. Requests for a tuition refund must be made in writing to the Board of Trustees and is entirely discretionary by the Board. Further, if the school has to hire an attorney to enforce payment of tuition, you will be responsible for all attorney fees and costs incurred by the school. THIS IS A ONE YEAR CONTRACT. APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO SOUTHERN ACADEMY IS TO BE SUBMITTED EACH YEAR.
