Southern Academy has four basketball teams: Varsity Boys, Varsity Girls, Junior Varsity Boys and Junior Varsity Girls. All of these teams compete in the AISA's Class 2A and are eligible to earn the opportunity to play in the AISA State Tournament.
The Junior Varsity State Tournament is usually held in late January each year and the Varsity State Tournament is held at the end of the regular season, in mid-February.
